Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus


Yiannis Antoniou was born on July 11, 1969. He is a graduate of Laniteion B’ Lyceum in Lemesos. After fulfilling his military service, he studied Political Sciences in Sofia, Bulgaria. He continued his studies at a School of Journalism in Lefkosia, whilst practicing journalism for “Haravghi” newspaper. He worked for many years as a reporter and editor for “Phileleftheros” newspaper up until 2008 when he assumed the position of Editor in Chief for “Kathimerini” Cyprus newspaper. For a short time, he worked as Editor in Chief for Mega TV channel and he served as Head of the IMH journalists’ team, which created the news portal “Reporter”.

As of 2016, he is manager of the company Alfa Dimiourgiki, which specializes in Communication and Publishing. Over the past few years, he is a permanent collaborator and columnist for “Phileleftheros” newspaper and he has also collaborated with MC Digital Media. From September 2018 until 28 September 2023, he served as member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus News Agency (CNA). He also served as member of the Cyprus Committee of Media Ethics as well as of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Union of Journalists.

He is married and has one child.
