
Nicholas A. Ioannides holds a PhD in Public International Law from the University of Bristol (2017). During the academic year 2017-2018 he was a Nippon Foundation Fellow at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg.
He graduated from the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and received a Master's degree (LLM) in Public International Law from the University of Bristol.
He has taught Public International Law, International Humanitarian Law and European Law at academic institutions in Cyprus and abroad. He was a legal advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Public International and European law issues. He has represented the Republic of Cyprus at the International Court of Justice in The Hague and in working groups of the Council of the European Union.
In 2019 he was awarded by the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations for the best doctoral thesis in international law for the years 2017-2019. In 2020 he was awarded by the International Association for the Law of the Sea for an academic article published in an international legal journal. He has published a book (a second one is currently under publication) and several academic articles/chapters in international legal publications. He has served as Chairman of the International and European Law Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association.
